What It Feels like to Work with Me

What It Feels like to Work with Me by Emily Pik // Career coaching for young professionals, quarter lifers, and recent grads. In a life transition or looking for leadership development? I can help!

Let’s get a little more into the details of how working with me feels. I’m sharing a real-life spotlight of one of my clients, Ben. We kicked-off his professional career while he was a graduate student. In the brief interview below, we cover the risks and the rewards of the job search process. Stay tuned for more content like this.

Ben began his job search in the fall for a full-time position in Summer 2020. He accepted an offer as a consultant at one of the Big Four consulting firms.

Q: Was it worth it to work with a coach? What did you accomplish when working with a coach?

A: It was. Emily helped me start my job search, prepare my applications, phone screens, and followed me through interviews and accepting a job.

Although I had strong technical skills and research experience, I knew that other job-seeking candidates did, as well. I wasn’t sure how to market myself to get noticed by recruiters. Emily worked with me to identify the specific skills and information employers were looking for in my field of interest, so that my resume, cover letters, and applications would stand out from the crowd.

Working with Emily was easy. We scheduled weekly phone appointments to address the details of my job search including - identifying potential employers, creating a timeline for applications, preparing for phone screens and interviews, and strategizing my overall plan of action. Emily is organized and knowledgeable, and she always shared actionable insights to keep the process moving forward.

Q: What has changed or is different in your life now that you have worked with a coach?

A: Three months in, I received an offer of employment from one of the top companies on my list. I’m certain that my work with Emily helped make that happen.
